Walayar case: P. Subramanian replaces Latha Jayaraj as special prosecutor in Palakkad
Kochi: The state government on Wednesday appointed advocate P. Subramanian as the special prosecutor in Palakkad. Subramanian replaces Latha Jayaraj, who made lapses in the infamous Walayar rape and murder case.
The government move comes after learning that lapses from the prosecutor had led to the accused in the Walayar case being let off. Even the court had pointed out that lapses by the prosecutor along with the failure of investigation team had led to the accused being let off.
Considering the special circumstances, the new prosecutor has been appointed from the earlier panel without inviting applications. Earlier, Jalaja Madhavan was appointed in the place of Latha Jayaraj. The latter was reinstated after she alleged that her transfer was not legal and tried to move court.
The government order replacing Latha with Subramanian was issued on Tuesday. Subramanian is a leader of a pro-CPM advocates organisation.
