Wafa Firoz drove the car; did not drink, reiterates Sriram Venkitaraman
Thiruvananthapuram: Sriram Venkitaraman IAS yet again denied his involvement in the death of Journalist K.M. Basheer, who was fatally knocked down by a car allegedly driven by him.
In an explanation given to the government, Sriram said he was not driving the car which fatally knocked down K.M. Basheer, Thiruvananthapuram Bureau Chief of Siraj Daily. The IAS officer also said that he had not consumed alcohol that night.
Sriram Venkitaraman said that Wafa Firoz was driving the car when the accident took place. He wanted his explanation regarding the accident to be heard and requested to be reinstated to service.
Meanwhile, the state government extended the IAS officer’s suspension by a period of 60 days.
The former Devikulam sub collector's justification is in response to the notice sent to him by Chief Secretary Tom Jose in connection with the suspension. Sriram was suspended from duty as part of the investigation into the accident.
