Kochi: Former chief minister VS Achuthanandan gets annoyed and remains aloof and crossed whenever former advocate general Sudhakara Prasad used to take up the controversial SNC-Lavalin corruption case.
Sudhakara Prasad had no second thoughts when asked about his biggest issue with VS; it was the Lavlin case, he used to say. Sudhakara Prasad was of the opinion that Pinarayi Vijayan had not done anything wrong in the agreement that was originally signed by former electricity minister G Karthikeyan. He continued with the project for the good of the state which was reeling under electricity crisis, Prasad said.
However, VS had a different opinion on the matter.
Sudhakara Prasad’s legal advice that a criminal case cannot be registered against Pinarayi was proved to be correct with the verdicts of the district court and then the high court, he used to believe.
CP Sudhakara Prasad was denied promotion to the bench in 1983 when the K Karunakaran ministry turned down the recommendation. However, he has set a record by becoming the advocate general of Kerala for 10 years. He is also the first AG with cabinet rank.
He couldn’t recall whether it was VS or Pinarayi who invited him in 2006 to the position. However, he remembers that it was Pinarayi who contacted him in 2016.
