VS criticizes move to grant magisterial powers to police
Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran CPM leader V. S. Achuthanandan overtly criticised in the assembly the move to grant magisterial powers to the police. He said that it should be keenly observed what would happen if police are granted magisterial powers in the current scenario. He added that the recent allegations against police should be seriously viewed.
V. S. Achuthanandan harshly criticised the recent controversies of police force while he was speaking at the discussion on the Appropriation Bill. V. S. Achuthanandan said that the involvement of police in some recent incidents are of serious nature and nothing of that kind should be allowed to happen again.
Even though they are isolated incidents, the issues in the police force are critical in nature. So, it has to be considered what would happen if the police force is granted magisterial power. But if such issues are controlled, Kerala would be in the top spot in case of law and order, VS said.
VS also raised criticism against the government regarding the levelling of fields. The development perspective ignoring the farmers and the connection with them would not lead to a sustainable development, he stated.
