Thiruvananthapuram: VA Arun Kumar, son of CPM veteran VS Achuthanandan, on Thursday shared the photo of the birthday celebration of his father.
The founding member of CPM and former chief minister of Kerala turned 99 on Thursday. Arun expressed his gratitude to all those who wished VS on his birthday.
Earlier, his wife Vasumathi had told Mathrubhumi that VS' health was "fine" and he still understands everything. He has difficulty speaking. He watches television and the relatives read him the newspaper every day, she said.

He served as the chief minister of Kerala from 2006-11 and as opposition leader in 2001-06 and 2011-16. VS chaired the administrative reforms commission in 2016. He was also the state secretary of CPM in Kerala and served in the politburo, the top decision-making body of the party, for 24 years till he was removed from it for violation of party discipline in 2009.
