Thiruvananthapuram: Former Chief Minister and Administrative Reforms Commission Chairman V S Achuthanandan visited the cyclone-hit areas of Poonthura and Vizhinjam coastal villages.

Addressing the public, Achuthanandan said he joins in the grief of the people.

The senior CPM leader said he is trying to do whatever things possible to help resolve their problems.

“I came here realising that all of you are in pain and grief. I will visit the relatives of missing fishermen and convey their grievances to the state and central governments,” he said.

Earlier, State Ministers Kadakampally Surendran and J Mercykutty Amma, who accompanied Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to cyclone-hit Poonthura, faced the protest of fisherfolk.

Expressing their anger over alleged delay in issuing cyclone warning and ‘tardy’ rescue operations, the fishermen said they will not allow any Ministers to enter their region and asked them to go back.

However, the fishermen listened to VS with patience and restraint.
