Angamaly: Many students were injured when a volcano model exploded at a school science fest in Angamaly on Saturday. The incident happened at Angamaly Holy Family High School. The volcano model was made by the students for exhibiting at the fest.
52 students, including a teacher, were injured. All of them were admitted to the hospital. No casualties were reported. Most of them left the hospital after getting primary medical aid.
The incident happened at 11.30 in the morning. The volcano model suddenly exploded while it was operated as part of the exhibition.
An initial examination says that gun powder was used in the model to show the eruption. The soil, stones and other materials used for making the model were scattered to pieces during the explosion which resulted in the accident.
The bomb squad and dog squad reached the spot for examination. The police said that the situation wasn’t serious.
