Vlogger's death: Lawyer raises suspicion over husband's FB live

Kozhikode: Vlogger Rifa Mehnu's death under mysterious circumstances has become a heated topic in Kerala. Now, her lawyer P Rafthas has come forward raising suspicion over Rifa's husband Mehnaz. Talking to Mathrubhumi News, the lawyer revealed that Mehnaz had physically assaulted Rifa before marriage.

He also disclosed that the documents obtained from Dubai recorded bruise marks on Rifa's body.

Apart from the family, the lawyer also suspected foul play as the mystery deepened in the case. He raised allegation by pointing out the Facebook live of Rifa's husband.

It is reported that Rifa's husband Mehnaz took to Facebook live soon after Rifa's death. With tears, he disclosed Rifa's death in the video.

"Rifa's brother and relatives are in Dubai. Soon after her death, Mehnaz phoned Rifa's brother and told him she is hospitalized. But when he reached the spot, Rifa's body was being carried to an ambulance. Statements of Mehnaz are not believable. The time of death is also different. He left Kerala three days after Rifa's final rites were over. He neither contacted Rifa's family nor his child after leaving Kerala. Rifa's phone is still missing. I think it is in Mehnaz's custody," said the lawyer.

Mehnaz had physically assaulted Rifa before their wedding. He slapped her for talking to a friend while visiting a mall. Rifa's father also revealed that Rifa suffered a leg fracture after Mehnaz attacked her with an iron rod," said the lawyer.

" Rifa's roommate who is a key witness in the case is still missing. So far, he did n't contact me," he added.

Police informed that Rifa's family members filed a complaint against her husband suspecting foul play.

"Her family members filed a complaint against her husband in Rifa's death. Police registered a case against him for mental and physical torture and abetment to suicide," Premlal said.

Further investigation will be done based on post mortem report, police said.
