Violence in DIG office march: Eldo Abraham MLA among 10 CPI leaders arrested
Kochi: Police arrested 10 CPI leaders in connection with the violence that took place during a protest march to the DIG’s office in July. The arrested leaders included Muvattupuzha MLA Eldo Abraham, CPI Ernakulam district secretary P Raju, district assistant secretary K. N. Sugathan.
The high court had asked the leaders to surrender before the investigating officers. Following this, the CPI leaders came to the Ernakulam PWD Rest house from where they were arrested. They will be produced before the court after medical examination.
P Raju told media persons that their arrest was only a normal procedure. However, Sugathan demanded that police action should be subject to discussion.
A controversy had erupted when MLA Eldo Abraham was injured after police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the protesters.
