Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed the police force to take strict action over the incidents of violence against women in the state. He added that the police should ensure punishment for the culprits. The chief minister said this while virtually inaugurating the foundation stone laying ceremony of police station buildings.

Several cases related to dowry have been reported in the state recently. Many girls have lost lives due to this social evil which was already abolished by law. We have announced some new projects to put an end to this practice. Cooperation of all police officers is required to successfully implement the same, the CM said.

If the women face any difficulties to approach the police, there should be facilities to collect the complaint from them. Women police officers should reach panchayats for this. The Pink Police system was implemented to ensure safety of women and a friendly atmosphere when they approach for help, he further said.

The police should act more efficiently in such cases. When a woman seeks help, the police should be able to reach the place in one phone call. Special courts should be arranged to ensure punishment for the culprits at the earliest. It will be considered if session court and the sub court can be converted to special court, he said.
