Threads worth Rs 26 lakh were brought for manufacturing units in Poojappura, Kannur and Viyyur central prisons without permission from the government.

Thiruvananthapuram: Following irregularities and violation of norms in the Police Department, evidence of similar incidents in the Prisons Department have also come out.

The violations were regarding purchase of thread for manufacturing units in central prisons. Threads worth Rs 26 lakh were brought for manufacturing units in Poojappura, Kannur and Viyyur central prisons.

The threads were purchased from Kannur cooperative spinning mill without permission from the government. Later, the jail superintendent sent a letter to the government to inform the matter.

However, instead of taking action for violating norms, the Home Department issued an order stipulating that the store purchase manual must be strictly followed in the future. It is this government order which has come to light now.
