Kochi: As part of the statewide vigilance inspection in Corporation offices, raids were carried out at the Kochi Corporation headquarters and zonal offices. The sudden vigilance raid was called 'Operation Nirman' following a complaint of irregularities in the allocation of building permits and tax deductions.
In addition, there were complaints that applications submitted by the public via online are rejected for silly reasons and applications made by agents are sanctioned easily. Vigilance had also received a complaint that there are so many unattended files and the officials are not punctual in office.
Irregularities were found in the raid and this will be confirmed by Vigilance team later. The raid in all the offices started at 11 am simultaneously until the evening.
Meanwhile, Selvaraj, an attender in the corporation, collapsed during a vigilance check at the corporation's Fort Kochi zonal office and was rushed to the Fort Kochi Government Hospital with head injuries. But he was referred to Ernakulam for specialist treatment as he had been ill for some time.
While taking him to the hospital, the ambulance overturned and collided with a car near the BOT bridge. Anil Kumar, another corporation employee who was in the ambulance, was injured in the accident. Both of them are admitted to Ernakulum Medical Trust Hospital in another private vehicle.
