Kozhikode: A Vigilance probe has been approved against MK Raghavan MP in connection with the bribery allegation and over the revelation of spending excess funds for Lok Sabha election. The case has been registered by the Kozhikode unit of Vigilance.
In 2019, during the Lok Sabha election campaign, allegations surfaced against Raghavan. TV9 channel, in a sting operation, had released a video in which he was seen reportedly making some revelations. The channel approached Raghavan posing as investors interested in starting a five-star hotel. Raghavan then demanded Rs 5 crore for his election expenses from them in return. The video also showed him asking to make the payment in Delhi.
The video also showed Raghavan revealing that he spent over Rs 20 crore during the 2014 election.
A complaint was registered based on the video and Vigilance had sought legal advice on further proceedings.
Vigilance is gearing up to probe these two revelations. As Raghavan holds an MP post, Vigilance sought legal advice whether Lok Sabha Speaker’s permission was required to register the case. However, it was advised that the permission was not required and hence Vigilance registered the case.
