Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau charged its officer, special cell DySP Velayudhan Nair for allegedly accepting bribes to protect an accused in a bribery case.
Nair had arrested Thiruvalla municipal secretary S Narayanan and an office attendant for allegedly accepting Rs 25,000 as a bribe.
After three months, he filed a report in the Vigilance court here that the case against the duo was a mistake.
A special investigation team had found that Narayanan had accumulated disproportionate assets. This investigation revealed that Nair accepted bribery from Narayanan, sources said.
Narayanan allegedly transferred Rs 50,000 to another account belonging to the son of Velayudhan Nair. The officers also recovered chats between Velayudhan and Narayanan on the matter.
