Kottayam/Kochi: The Vigilance arrested B V Nagesh, managing partner of Nagesh Consultancy which designed Palarivattom flyover, on corruption charges. He was summoned for interrogation at Kottayam and then arrested and produced before Muvattupuzha vigilance court. He was sent in Vigilance custody for one day. He is the 13th accused in the case.
Experts had found that the flyover collapsed due to the defects in its design. There was conspiracy behind the design of the flyover. The standards of the Indian Road Congress and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways were not followed while preparing the design. The Vigilance stated that he made financial gains through this.
Nagesh had said that he received Rs 19.76 lakh from the contract company RDS. However, a total of Rs 61.50 lakh was credited to Nagesh’s account from RDS during the period between July 6, 2013 and August 13, 2018. This was for compromising on the design, the Vigilance found out.
The Vigilance also named industries secretary Muhammed Haneesh as accused in the flyover scam case. He is named 10th accused in the case. Haneesh was the managing director of Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala (RBDCK) at the time of the flyover construction and he helped them get a loan, according to the Vigilance.
Vigilance pointed out that Haneesh made lapses in receiving security deposit from the contractor and also helped them get loan through unauthorised means. Former PWD secretary T O Sooraj stated that it was Haneesh who recommended to grant the amount to RDS in advance. Haneesh told the Vigilance that he only handed over the company’s request to get advance amount and did not recommend for them.
Meanwhile, the Vigilance stated in the court that former PWD minister V K Ebrahim Kunju does not cooperate with the probe team. They said this while opposing his bail plea. As he is aware of many other details in the case, he need to be taken into custody and questioned in detail, they informed the court.
