Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George hailed the vaccination drive in the state as a great success. In August, 88,23,524 doses of the vaccine were administered in the state. Of these, 70,89,202 people were given the first dose and 17,34,322 given the second dose, the minister said in a statement.
As per the data, five lakh people were vaccinated on August 13 and 14, 4 lakh in six days (12, 23, 25, 27, 30, 31), 3 lakh in 5 days (2, 15, 16, 17, 24), Two lakh in nine days (3, 6, 7, 9, 11, 18, 19, 26, 29) and one lakh (1, 4, 5, 20, 28) in five days.
The Minister congratulated all those who worked hard to achieve this herculean task.
The central government had also sanctioned more vaccines as per the request of the state. The centre has sanctioned a total of 70,35,940 doses of vaccine, which include 58,99,580 doses of covishield and 11,36,360 doses of covaxin.
In addition, KMSCL bought more doses using the CSR funds. 2.5 lakh doses of the Covshield vaccine were purchased. With this, 72,85,940 doses of vaccine were made available to the state this month alone. The state has also spent Rs 10 lakh to purchase covishield vaccine through KMSCL.
The vaccination drive in the state was started on August 9. The health department carried out the drive in different phases to vaccinate as many people as possible. Priority was given to administer first dose to people above 60 and those who are bedridden.
The vaccine was also given to teachers, people with comorbidities and college students. Vaccination drive for teachers will be completed on the occasion of the teachers' day on September 5. The minister said efforts were being made to give the first dose of the vaccine to everyone above18 by the end of September.
According to the population of 2021, 60.04 per cent received the first dose and 22.02 per cent took the second dose. 74.06 per cent of people above 18 years took the first dose and 27.16 per cent received the second dose.
Among health workers and frontline workers, 100 percent received the first dose and 86 percent took the second dose.
Among the people above 45 years, 91 percent took the first jab and 46 per cent received the second dose.The first dose was given to 51 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 44.
