VD Satheesan demands judicial probe into tree felling case
Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader V D Satheesan alleged that the chief minister's statement that the tree felling order was issued with positive intentions was made in order to protect the secret gang behind it.
This is the largest forest robbery Kerala ever witnessed. A judicial probe should be initiated into this robbery which covered 8 districts, Satheesan demanded.
The opposition leader further asked if the chief minister saw the order which was issued after meeting of two ministers and if the cabinet or LDF approved the same. The rules of 1964 and 2005 was misinterpreted in order to issue the order, he said.
The forest department and the revenue department refuse to take responsibility of the robbery. The custodian of the trees in the revenue land is the government. If the trees are cut, the village officer or tehsildar should file complaint. But they have not done so, he added.
The collector lodged the complaint in Wayanad only. Meppady range officer has asked the DFO and revenue officials regarding the trees and the land. But they did not even respond to it, he alleged.
