Thiruvananthapuram: Vice-Chancellors of nine universities have officially submitted their reply to Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan’s show-cause notice. In the show-cause notice sent to nine Vice-Chancellors, the governor asked them to give a reason for allowing them to continue in their posts as their appointments were illegal as per a recent Supreme Court ruling.
All Vice-Chancellors except former Kerala Technical University VC Rajashree submitted their reply to the governor’s notice. Rajashree was removed from the post of VC after Supreme Court issued an order quashing her appointment.
In the order, SC pointed out that as per the University Grants Commission (UGC), the search committee constituted by the State should have recommended a panel of not less than three suitable people in the field of engineering science to the Chancellor but, instead, it sent only one name. Based on this order, the governor who is the chancellor of the universities demanded the resignation of nine Vice-Chancellors.
Responding to the show-cause notice, Kalady Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit VC MV Narayanan and others expressed willingness to appear for the hearing. Governor will take a final decision on the matter after the hearing.
