Thiruvananthapuram: The Save University Campaign committee on Saturday submitted a petition before the Kerala University vice chancellor requesting to review the PhD dissertation of Kerala State Youth Commission chairperson Chintha Jerome, which incorrectly attributed the poetry collection ‘Vazhakkula’ to Malayalam poet Vyloppilli Sreedhara Menon.

The campaign committee has reportedly decided to lodge a complaint in this regard with Governor Arif Mohammed Khan the next day.

Apparently, Chintha’s dissertation incorrectly mentions Vyloppilli as the author of ‘Vazhakkula’, while it was originally written by Changampuzha Krishna Pillai.

In addition, the name ‘Vyloppilli’ has been allegedly misspelt as ‘Vyloppalli’ in the dissertation. Surprisingly, such a grave error went unnoticed by Chintha’s guide as well as the evaluators.

The dissertation, titled ‘the ideological foundation of Malayalam commercial cinema in the neoliberal times’, was submitted at the Kerala University and was awarded the doctorate in 2021.

It was prepared under the guidance of Dr PP Ajayakumar, former Pro Vice Chancellor of Kerala University.

Meanwhile, Chintha Jerome has not yet commented on the controversy. However, sources close to her opined that there are no errors in the core themes of the dissertation.

There are only some technical errors in those areas that were cited from certain poems, they added.
