Varkala: 4-year-old falls off train, policemen become saviours

Varkala: The timely intervention of police rescued the life of a four-year-old girl who fell off while getting down from a train at Varkala station. The girl slipped down to the track through the gap between the platform and the train. Riyasree, daughter of Selvakumar and Remukhi from Madurai, was saved by the police. They jumped down to the track and saved the girl before the train started to move.

The family from Madurai arrived in Varkala on the Madurai-Punalur passenger train Sunday afternoon.

Riyasree fell when the train was stopped at Varkala station. Suddenly everyone cried aloud. Railway Civil Police officers Bineesh and MS Shan came to the spot hearing the noise and rescued her. The accident happened near the station master's room. Station Superintendent Shivanandan had witnessed the accident and refused to give the green signal to the train. The timely intervention of the policemen and the Station Superintendent saved the child’s life.

The child had minor injuries on the nose and was taken to the hospital immediately. After the first aid, she was discharged.
