Malappuram: Demanding the resignation of Minister KT Jaleel, who was interrogated by Enforcement Directorate and NIA in connection with the gold smuggling case, various youth organizations staged huge protest in Malappuram on Friday. Youth League and Youth Congress clashed with police and many activists were injured. Police used water cannons and lathis to counter the protests.
Youth League took out protest to the town in the morning. Following this, traffic came to a standstill near Kottappuram taluk hospital for 15 minutes. As the protestors refused to move from the road, police resorted to lathicharge. They were later arrested and removed.
Youth Congress staged a protest march to Malappuram Collectorate. They were blocked by police using barricades.
Various opposition parties are staging statewide protests demanding Jaleel’s resignation.
