Kochi: The Central Police here on Sunday nabbed three accused in the murder of Varappuzha native Syam. The accused are identified as Nettur natives Thomas, Harshad and Sudheer.
According to police, CCTV visuals turned crucial in the case. The number of the Wagon R car used by the accused was visible in the CCTV visuals. With this clue, the police traced the accused. It is learnt that the police will record their arrest soon.
Police informed that a ruckus ended up in the murder of Shyam. The gang who came in a car attacked Shyam when he mocked them for approaching a transgender.
“Shyam had sung a song as making fun of the gang. Irked by his act, the gang questioned him and the quarrel broke out between them turned violent. One among the three-member gang stabbed Shyam and his friend Arun with a knife. Though Shyam tried to flee from the spot, he collapsed due to the injury. Later, he was declared dead at the hospital," reported the probe team.
Police informed that eight people including a transgender were present at the crime scene. One of the accused also suffered injuries while trying to escape from the scene.
The incident took place near a shopping complex on Kalathiparambu road near the south bridge on Sunday around 2 am. As per the preliminary investigation, an autorickshaw driver also reached the crime scene.
