Kannur: CPM state secretary MV Govindan on Sunday said that SilverLine project will be implemented soon. He added that Semi High-Speed Rail (SilverLine) Project would help develop the state into a "big city."

Addressing the media in Kannur, Govindan remarked that Vande Bharat trains were not a substitute for SilverLine. He further added that SilverLine would provide an opportunity for even those in the lowest strata of society to access its services.

However, BJP leader PK Krishnadas mocked the CPM and Govindan after the trial runs of the Vande Bharat train in the state. He stated that Kudumbashree workers from Shoranur could sell Appam (Rice & Coconut Hoppers) in Thiruvananthapuram and return home quickly via Vande Bharat trains.

In response to Krishnadas's comments, Govindan retorted that SilverLine could offer a better service and Kudumbashree workers could save more time. He also made a sarcastic remark about how Appam transported through Vande Bharat trains would turn stale.
