Pathanamthitta / Malappuram: Congress on Tuesday staged protests in Tirur (Malappuram) and Chengannur (Alappuzha) railway stations against the Ministry of Railways’ apparent stand of not allocating stops for Vande Bharat Express train in both locations. The protests happened within hours Kerala’s first Vande Bharat Express was flagged off from Thiruvananthapuram.
In Tirur, the protest was inaugurated by PK Kunhalikutty. While in Chengannur it was inaugurated by Kodikunnil Suresh.
Congress veterans had raised neglect of Railways towards Malappuram district and in today’s protest, the party highlighted it.
Similarly, Congress pointed out that Vande Bharat Express does not have stops in the Alappuzha district or nearby Pathanamthitta district. It also batted that Chengannur railway station being the major point of commutation for Sabarimala pilgrims, the stop should be allocated.
At present, Vande Bharat Express has stops at Thiruvananthapuram Central, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town, Thrissur, Shoranur Jn, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod. It may be noted that the stop for Vande Bharat Express was allocated to Shoranur station only after a political protest. The new development comes at this juncture.
