Vadakkencherry mishap: Tourist bus driver fled from spot claiming as tour operator

Vadakkencherry: Police recorded the arrest of Jomon Paulose (48), driver of the tourist bus that met with an accident in Vadakkencherry on Wednesday night. Following the accident, it came to light that the driver recklessly drove the bus and blatantly disregarded safety of the passengers.

He was later taken into custody by the police in Kollam on Thursday afternoon after absconding from the hospital where he took initial treatment. Police chased his car and caught him while he was heading to Thiruvananthapuram with his friends.

He was booked under IPC Section 304A -- causing death by negligence. It is also highly likely that more charges will be slapped on him due to the severity of the incident. Following the accident, he escaped from the spot by claiming that he was the tour operator.

Currently, he is questioned by a team led by Alathur DySP. He will also be taken to the accident spot to collect more evidence.

The blood samples collected from Jomon have been sent for a detailed examination to check whether he was in an inebriated condition. As the samples were collected only on Thursday evening, the alcohol content is less likely to be confirmed through the tests.
