Vadakkencherry accident: PM announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for kin of deceased

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed grief over the death of 9 people in a bus accident at Vadakkencherry in Palakkad. Taking to Twitter the PMO’s office informed that Rs 2 lakh will be granted to the kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000.

The ex-gratia to the victims will be allotted from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

“PM @narendramodi has expressed grief on the loss of lives due to an accident in Kerala’s Palakkad district. He extends condolences to the bereaved families and prays for a quick recovery of the injured, “ tweeted PMO India.

“Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,” reads another tweet.

Nine people, including five students, were killed after a private tourist bus hit a state-run KSRTC bus from behind at Vadakkenchery in Palakkad district, Kerala Road Transport Minister Antony Raju said on Thursday.

The minister said the accident occurred around 11.30 PM on Wednesday when the private bus, which was travelling at a high speed while attempting to overtake a car, hit the rear end of a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus.
