Palakkad: The tourist bus that met with an accident in Palakkad resulting in the death of six of its passengers had just returned from a Velankanni trip. It is learnt that the staffers of the bus took up the second trip without proper rest.

The scheduled departure to Ooty from Baselios Vidyanikethan Senior Secondary School, Ernakulam, was 5.30 in the evening. However, the excursion started only by 6.45 pm.

A parent of the student said that the driver was warned about his tiredness. However, he replied that his helper on the bus also drives and his tiredness will not be a problem.

After the trip commenced, the students had noted the overspeeding of the bus. Though they shared the concern among themselves, it did not reach the bus operators. The bus rammed into the rear of a KSRTC bus before falling into a swamp in Mangalam near Vadakkencherry on NH 544. Half of the tight side of the KSRTC was torn apart. It shows the impact of the hit.
Natives noted that the location is prone to accidents.

While recalling that the tourist bus driver was overspeeding, the KSRTC driver said he was lucky to get control of his bus after the hit and stop it from overturning.
