Vadakara murder: Police release picture of suspect

Kozhikode: The police on Thursday released the picture of a youth suspected of murdering a trader at his shop in Vadakara on Sunday. The picture was captured from the CCTV footage gathered from the area.

The picture of the youth has been sent to all police stations and an extensive search operation is underway. However, it is not clear whether the suspect is a Keralite as he is not familiar to anyone in the area.

According to police, the youth was a pillion rider with the victim on the day of the murder. The CCTV footage also showed him buying a bottle of water from the streets.

Reportedly, the youth’s picture was released after proper verification of all the available evidence. The suspect is likely to be aged between 25 and 30.

Meanwhile, north zone DIG Rahul R Nair met Vadakara rural SP R Karuppasamy on Thursday and evaluated the investigation.

Currently, a team of four sub inspectors and 20 policemen led by DySP R Hariprasad and inspector PM Manoj are probing the murder.

So far, information has been gathered from around 50 people.

Rajan (62), who ran a provision store in Vadakara, was found strangled to death at his shop last Sunday.
