Thiruvananthapuram: For the first time in three weeks, the state is facing uncertainty on the vaccination drive due to the shortage of stock. The health department stated that Covishield vaccine is not available in 6 districts including Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kottayam, Kollam, Kozhikode, and Kannur.
A total of 1.4 lakh doses of vaccines is only left in the state along with a small amount of Covaxin available in few districts.
Health Minister Veena George appealed to the Central Government to address the issue and quickly deliver new stock of vaccine doses requested by the state. However, the department has no idea when the vaccine will reach the state.
The state is planning to administer the first dose of vaccines to all above 18 in the state before a deadline of September 30. However, with the current situation, it is highly unlikely that the state could match that number on time.
