Vaccine challenge: Full amount will be utilized for vaccine purchase, declares CM
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared that the amount donated to Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund under vaccine challenge will be utilized only for purchasing vaccine.
Taking part in the vaccine challenge, people donated over Rs 1 cr to CMDRF on Friday. A special account will be created in CMDRF to reserve the fund from the vaccine challenge, said Chief Minister.
"The vaccination drive is affected as the manufacturers are allowed to fix the price of the vaccine. Serum Institute of India has decided to sell the vaccine, which is sold at Rs 150 per dose to the central government, at a high price of Rs 400 per dose to the states. There will be a tough competition for vaccine purchase as the quota for the states is not decided yet. We cannot take a stand that vaccine will be given to only those who make payment. The state government has decided to implement a free and universal vaccination policy across the state. The LDF government will keep the word to the public,” said Pinarayi Vijayan.
At the same time, he pointed out that people had taken up the vaccine challenge themselves without anyone’s appeal.
Now, those who received the vaccine are donating to CMDRF. Everyone should be ready to be part of the challenge. Apart from individuals, organisations and offices should join hands to achieve our goals, added the CM.
