Kollam: With Sooraj being arrested for murdering his wife Uthra at Anchal here in the district, there is a confusion regarding the custody of their 13-month-old son. Uthra’s family has demanded the custody of the boy, who is staying with Sooraj’s parents at present.
Uthra’s family has decided to take the legal route to take custody of the boy. “We will take necessary action after discussing with legal experts,” said Uthra’s brother.
Meanwhile, Pathanamthitta Child Welfare Committee chairman Sakkeer Hussain said that priority will be given to the child’s safety. He clarified that a decision will be taken based on request seeking custody of the child.
Kollam District Child Safety officer also said that a final decision regarding the child’s custody will be taken soon. Earlier, Sooraj had approached the welfare committee seeking the child’s custody. The boy was handed over to Sooraj as the parent of a child whose mother had died.
Meanwhile, Sooraj’s mother said that they will accept any decision taken by the authorities. “The 13-month-old child was crying all the time when he was at Uthra’s house. He was not eating properly. I had been taking care of the child since he was just three months old. That’s why we took him under our custody. Now we don’t have a choice but to accept the decision taken by officials,” she said.
