Suraj gets maximum punishment for all charges but murder

Kollam: Uthra murder case accused Suraj was awarded maximum punishment for all his crimes but murder. The Kollam Additional Sessions court sentenced Suraj, who murdered his wife Uthra, to 17 years of imprisonment and a double life term.

The court had on Monday found that he is guilty of charges under sections 302, 307, 328 and 201 of IPC.

For crimes under section 302, murder, he is punished with a life term and a fine of Rs 5 lakh. Another life term for section 307, attempt to murder. For using poison with the intention to hurt someone, Suraj got a 10-year term under section 328. For tampering with evidence, he is sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment.

With the current sentence, he will have to spend the rest of his life in jail. However, Uthra’s mother has said that she was unhappy over the court verdict and will approach the High Court seeking death penalty for Suraj.
