Thamarassery: Travellers visiting Wayanad Ghat road will have to pay a 'user fee' from February 1 onwards. The fee is being collected as part of the initiative to reduce waste generation in Thamarassery Churam.

Under the project 'Azhakode Churam', Puduppady grama panchayat will charge Rs 20 per vehicle visiting the ghat road to experience the beauty of the serene hilly terrain.

The panchayat has decided to field Haritha Karama Sena members as guards to collect fees at major viewpoints on the Ghat. The money will be collected from travellers who are stopping on the Ghat road.

The funds will be used to clean the ghat and ensure the place remains free of waste. Further, the grama panchayat will submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the government regarding the initiative.
