UP couple held for torturing minor Bihar girl in Kozhikode

Kozhikode: The police here on Wednesday filed a case against an Uttar Pradesh couple for assaulting a 13-year-old girl who does housekeeping at their flat in Kozhikode. The couple was booked under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, and for illegally bringing the girl from Bihar.

Dr Mirsa Muhammed Khan, a doctor at a private hospital in Kozhikode, his wife Ruhana hailing from Aligarh, was booked for beating a Bihar girl who was brought to their flat at Pantheeramkavu here four months ago.

According to the police, the child suffered burn injuries and was beaten up using a belt. The incident was brought to the attention of Childline by the people living in the adjacent flats. Later, the Childline officials shifted the girl to Govt. Children's Home at Vellimadukkunnu.

The girl revealed that Ruhana had beaten up her using a belt and tortured her by placing a burning-hot iron spatula on her skin.
