Kannur: When Ajay Babu reached home safely, his mother assured the jail superintendent that he would never steal anything again. She was extremely grateful to him and Kerala for giving back her son. "I slept well after four months. I hugged him and fell asleep," Ajay's mother said brimming with tears.
Ajay Babu reunited with his family in Tolma village in Hamirpur in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. Mathrubhumi had reported the news of a juvenile prisoner who was released on bail by the prison authorities themselves. When he reached home, it was reported by national dailies also.
Ajay Babu happened to be a burglar after he failed to survive even through begging during the lockdown. He broke into a bank and stole Rs 600 from the draw. He was imprisoned after this. Later, he escaped from Kannur jail to go to Kasaragod police station for getting back his phone so that he can call his mother. But he was nabbed again and was sent to Kannur special sub jail.
As nobody came to release Ajay, the prison authorities themselves found out his address and fulfilled the procedures for his release. He was granted bail on both burglary cases and jailbreak case. The prison staff gifted him two pairs of dress, food for two days and pocket money before seeing him off at railway station.
Ajay Babu's mother was grateful to the Kerala Police on knowing the story and contacted Superintendent T K Janardanan on Tuesday. Ajay told him that he will not come to Kerala and wants to go to Hyderabad for construction works. He also said that he would never forget the love he received in jail and promised never to steal again.
