Thrissur: The National Highway Authority of India(NHAI) has barred Guruvayur Infrastructure Private Limited (GIPL) from road works for using unscientific methods to repair NH 544. With this, the repair works allotted to Guruvayur Infrastructure Private Limited, the company that operates Paliyekkara Toll Plaza will be given to other companies.

The company will be fined 25 per cent of the total project cost estimated for the various constructions and repair works.

Hence, another company will replace GIPL for the construction of Chalakudy underpass, service road and other repair works.

Earlier, a report submitted to the Kerala High Court uncovered 17 large potholes on the Mannuthi-Edapally stretch of NH 544. Thrissur collector also took measures to 'blacklist' the company after it was revealed that workers used pre-packed asphalt mix to fill potholes.
