Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Director-General of Police (DGP) Anil Kant has issued a show cause notice to a male cop booked for allegedly committing unnatural sex with a man accused in a POCSO case.

Former Circle Inspector (CI) of Ayiroor Police Station, Jaya Sanal, has been asked to respond within seven days. The notice has sought his explanation on why he should not be sacked.

Sanal has been facing departmental action over the complaint that he allegedly had unnatural sex with a man accused in POCSO, as a favour for not arresting the latter.

The incident pertaining to the case happened in October 2022, when he was Station House Officer (SHO) of Ayiroor.

Sanal reportedly called up POCSO accused from abroad and the latter’s brother to inform them that he will spare him if certain interests are met. However, he did not stick to the assurance.

Meanwhile, the alleged act happened at the quarters, where the cop had been staying. Apart from committing unnatural sex, he also siphoned Rs 50,000, POCSO accused said in his complaint.
