University college murder attempt case: Charge sheet filed after six months

The documents named 19 accused including former Students Federation of India (SFI) activists Shivaranjith and Nazeem. Sections including attempted murder has been registered against them.

Thiruvananthapuram: Police on Saturday filed the charge sheet in the University College murder attempt case.

The Cantonment police here filed the charge sheet at the Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Court six months after the incident took place.

The documents named 19 accused including former Students Federation of India (SFI) activists Shivaranjith and Nazeem. Sections including attempt to murder has been registered against them.

The case pertains to the attempt to stab Akhil, another student of Thiruvananthapuram University College, to death. The charge sheet mentioned that SFI reprimanding the accused for damaging Akhil’s bike also provoked them.

Following the incident, SFI had expelled both Shivaranjith and Nazeem. Due to the delay in filing the charge sheet, the accused were even granted bail.
