New Delhi: UNICEF has stated that it would ensure availability of safe drinking water through individual household tap connections in Kerala by 2023. The project is part of the Jal Jeevan Mission of the Union government.
Jal Jeevan Mission director Bharat Lal said that India would achieve 100 per cent drinking water availability in 40 years.
The project would be completed in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya and Ladakh in 2022. Nine other states, including Kerala and Tamil Nadu, would see the completion in 2023.
At present, the mission work is in progress in 6.04 lakh villages in the country. It has already completed in 5.44 cr houses.
