Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader VD Satheesan said that the unfortunate events that unfolded in the assembly and at the speaker's office on Wednesday showed the arrogance of the ruling front.

While speaking at a press conference minutes after opposition MLAs staged a protest, Satheesan alleged that Watch and Wards manhandled UDF MLAs who peacefully staged a sit-in protest in front of speaker Shamseer's office.

"The speaker continues to reject our adjournment motion citing silly reasons. The same happened today in the assembly. It has become a practice to reject our adjournment motions whenever Chief Minister issues a statement in the assembly," he said.

He alleged that for the last several days, some members led by Chief Minister had been trying to impose a "family agenda" to undermine assembly proceedings and make the speaker a laughing stock. The government is forcing the speaker not to approve our notices for the adjournment motion.

He also criticized minister PA Mohammed Riyas for his recent remarks against the opposition MLAs in the assembly. Those who become minister through management quota hold no right to criticize the opposition, Satheesan added.

Meanwhile, Satheesan also criticized the speaker's decision to reject an adjournment motion moved by UDF in connection with an attack on a female student in Thiruvananthapuram. "What is the point of convening Assembly if issues like woman's safety are not discussed here ?"
