Unaware of husband’s death in Dubai, Athira delivers baby girl

Kozhikode: NRI woman Athira, who had moved the Supreme Court for evacuation of pregnant women stranded abroad, delivered a baby girl on Tuesday. Her husband Nithin Chandran who was in the forefront of the legal battle, passed away in Dubai on Monday due to heart attack.

Athira delivered the baby through cesarean at a private hospital in Kozhikode.

Nithin, who was active in COVID-19 prevention and blood donation activities in Dubai, died in sleep. Athira was repatriated in the first flight as part of Vande Bharat Mission. Nithin, however, stayed back in Dubai and offered his ticket for another person.

The expat community is grieving over the death of Nithin. He had sought treatment for heart ailment one year back, his friends said.

At the age of 29, he left this world without waiting to have a glance of his baby daughter.
