Thrissur: Over 60 employees in the ministerial section of the General Education Department are scheduled to retire from service on May 31. The government usually resorts to promotions and transfers as a temporary remedy to fix the crisis from unfilled vacancies due to retirement. However, no such actions have been taken this year.

Though the government ordered to complete the transfer-related procedures before April 30, the General Education Department has not yet initiated any move.

The mass retirement in the ministerial section will result in 45 vacancies in senior posts. Vacancies have been reported for the senior posts including administrative assistant, accounts officer, and assistant provident fund officer in the DDE office; personal assistant in the DEO office; senior superintendent in the sub-district education office. 15 junior superintendents including the midday meal officers will also retire on May 31.
