Rs 4.5 cr unaccounted money seized from Kozhikode youth

Perinthalmanna: Kerala Police seized unaccounted money from two youth here on Sunday. Kozhikode Thamarassery natives Fida Fahadh and Ahamed Anees, were carrying Rs 4,59,99,000. The money was hidden in a custom-made hiding space in their car that was registered in Karnataka. A number of bundles of Rs 500 notes were stacked under the seats.

A joint operation of the special team under Malappuram district police chief S Sujith Das and Perinthalmanna police was carried out based on a secret tip about money transfer. The search was conducted near the overbridge at Angadipuram at around 5.15 am.

It is assumed that the money was part of a hawala chain connecting Bengaluru and Koduvally.

The money will be produced in court. Central agencies such as the income tax department and enforcement directorate will be informed about the development.
