Arif Muhammed Khan-Dr K Riji John
Kochi: Kerala governor Arif Mohammed Khan who also holds the position of chancellor of universities in the state has informed the Supreme Court that former vice-chancellor (VC) of Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) Dr K Riji John was instated by flouting mandate.
According to Khan’s affidavit, the state government had issued an order which said all universities in Kerala come under the ambit of UGC mandate. Riji John tried to hush up changes in UGC norms before the apex court, he claimed.
Khan’s affidavit comes in response to the notice sent by the Supreme Court over the plea filed by Riji John against the Kerala High Court order which revoked his vice-chancellor appointment at KUFOS.
Earlier, Khan before the High Court took a stand that Riji John’s appointment was in congruence with mandate. For the change in his position, Khan has attributed two Supreme Court judgements, saying UGC mandate should be followed in VC appointment.
