Kochi: In the past six months, 81,000 micro, small or medium enterprises (MSME) sought Udyam Registration from Kerala. With this, the total number of MSMEs that took Udyam Registration in the state has reached 3.2 lakhs.
The sudden upsurge in new registrations is due to the government's year of enterprises project. Even though Udyam registration is not mandatory for starting new MSMEs, government recognition ensures investors receive subsidies and other benefits.
Among districts, Ernakulam tops with 50,648 MSMEs, followed by Thiruvananthapuram (41,268) and Thrissur (32,689). Only Wayanad (7,867) and Idukki (9,161) have a total registration below the 10,000 mark.
Meanwhile, the total number of registration in the country reached Rs 1 crore.
