Pathanamthitta: United Democratic Front has recaptured the post of the chairperson from Left Democratic Front in Thiruvalla municipality. Congress’ Anu George won the poll by securing 17 votes in the 39-member council.
Kerala Congress (Mani) candidate Linda received 15 votes.
Only 32 cast their votes. BJP and SDPI abstained.
The election was necessitated by the resignation of Santhamma Varghese as chairperson.
Santhamma quit UDF in June 2022. The then-chairperson and vice-chairperson quit based on an agreement within UDF. Afterwards, the LDF fielded Santhamma as chairperson, which she won. Both LDF and UDF won 16 votes each.
