Elamkulam: UDF has ended 40 years of LDF administration in Elamkulam panchayat, which is the native place of EMS Namboodiripad.
UDF’s C Sukumaran was elected as the panchayat president through a lucky draw. Both LDF and UDF secured 8 seats each out of the total 16 seats in the panchayat. Following this, the president was selected through a draw.
UDF’s C Sukumaran and CPM’s Anitha Pallath contested in the election. Even the vice president was selected through a draw. UDF’s Hirunnissa was selected as the vice president.
CPM won 5 seats, CPI won 1 seat while independent candidates won 2 seats for the LDF. Meanwhile, Congress - 3, Muslim League - 2 and independents candidates won 3 seats for UDF in the Elamkulam constituency.
