UDF vote annulled; LDF wins Thrikkakara municipality
Kochi: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) won the Thrikkakkara municipality council elections after one of the votes polled by a United Democratic Front (UDF) councillor was annulled here on Wednesday.
In the municipality, where both parties had equal number of members, the LDF received 21 votes while UDF got 20.
Initially there were 43 members in the municipality council. One among them, Sheela Charu, left Congress and became the chairperson. The HC later disqualified her which resulted in the election. Her right to vote was also withdrawn.
This resulted in both the LDF and UDF having the same number of councillors at 21 each. Both fronts were assured of their own votes. However, the vote polled by UDF’s E. K. Majeed was annulled. UDF alleged that Majeed cheated them after accepting money.
As LDF received 21 votes, their councillor from division 21 - Usha Praveen, was elected as the new chairperson. Deputy collector Padmakumar was the presiding officer.
