UDF to rule Kalamassery, Paravur, Kottayam municipalities


Both UDF and LDF had 20 councillors each in Kalamassery municipality. Seema Kannan was elected through draw. Adv Chithra Surendran was LDF candidate.

Kalamassery: UDF will rule Kalamassery municipality in Ernakulam and Paravur municipality in Kollam. The chairperson was elected through draw in both municipalities. In Kalamassery municipality, Seema Kannan was elected as chairperson and P Sreeja became chairperson in Paravur municipality. Bincy Sebastian was elected as chairperson in Kottayam municipality.

Both UDF and LDF had 20 councillors each in Kalamassery municipality. Seema Kannan was elected through draw. Adv Chithra Surendran was LDF candidate.

There are 42 divisions in the municipality. The election in one division was cancelled as the candidate died. In the remaining 41 divisions, UDF won 19 seats and LDF won 18 seats. NDA, CPM rebel, Congress rebel and Muslim League rebel won in one seat each.

Among them, CPM rebel Bindu Manoharan and Muslim League rebel K H Subair supported LDF while Congress rebel A K Nishad supported UDF. With this, both had equal number of councillors and the chairperson was elected through draw.

In Kottayam, both LDF and UDF have 22 councillors. Though UDF had 21 members, independent candidate Bincy Sebastian offered support to them and the number of councillors became equal. LDF fielded Sheeja Anil as their chairperson candidate.
