Periya: The Pullur-Periya panchayat where the double murder of young congress activists Sarathlal and Kripesh took place, has been seized by UDF in the local body election. During the last election, LDF had won from here.
UDF also took back from LDF, the ward including Kalliyot, which was the crime scene.
The Supreme Court had recently ordered for a CBI probe into the double murder. Out of the 17 seats, the UDF victory in nine seats comes in the wake of this. LDF won in seven seats and BJP in one.
In the last election, UDF had won only 4 seats.
Apart from Kalliyot, UDF candidates defeated LDF in Koodanam and Kodavalam wards.
In 2010, UDF had won the Pullur-Periya panchayat and in 2015, LDF had seized it.
